You don't say the size of the cot but what about a cushion for a patio swing?

A big thick comforter folded to the correct proportions. Quick, easy, and easily washed!!

What about bed pillows ? Three or four depending on length of the cot. You could stitch the pillowcases together on the sides so you could slip the pillows out to wash the cases. You can then flip the three or four pillows so they stack.

I used just some extra blankets and towels under the sheet. They seemed to do well!

Depending on the cot size you might use a pad from patio furniture chaise lounge or one of the shorter items from a patio set. You might consider stitching the sections together to avoid a hole for the child to fall in!

You can still buy foam waffle toppers for a mattress. Easy to cut with a pair of scissor to a size that fits your need. Cover with a sheet.
