Before and After Banister

This post serves as a warning to all DIY'ers out there in blog-land. Not all DIY projects are as easy as they seem at first glance. I wanted to share a quick 'before and after' story with ya'll, so you don't make the same mistakes as we did with our banisters!
The attempt to stain our old banister...did not go well!
2nd try...we opted to paint it, so here is the primer stage.
A lovely, easy makeover with some black paint!

No, we didn't varnish it, but that would probably be a good idea!

I have a small banister at the edge of my kitchen. I am ready to take it down and put up a pony wall. It stays so dirty. We have a handrail on the other side where there is a wall, so we could add a short one on the new wall.
