You're not far from the UGA Demonstration Gardens in Griffin, where Dr Kris Braman has been evaluating canna varieties for leaf roller resistance. She says 'Maudie Malcolm', 'Striped Beauty' and 'Journey's End' exhibit consistent resistance.
If you don't want to replace your cannas, be sure to completely remove leaves and stems when frost kills them.
Walter, Why do I need to remove the leaves since the worms are not a problem during this time or year? Is it because they are in the ground and any mulch would protect them? If so, I need to remove all mulch. Or are they active on the plant now and I just don't see them? Can I remove the leaves before the first frost hits? The leaves would be easier to manage...
Bill- Leafroller larvae overwinter in dead foliage so that's why it should be destroyed.
LeeAnn - Cannas will survive winter MOST of the time...but if you want to be sure about them, dig them in the next few weeks, chop off the stem/leaves and store indoors.
Martha - Trichogramma wasps seem to control leafrollers in greenhouse situations but don't do a very good job outdoors.
Thank you Walter. I have to dig them up, as we are extending the outdoor room to that area & I want to save them for another spot. You are a pro & I respect your advice. Many thanks.

trichogramma wasps are the natural solution..
