How to restore a vanity for little girl

I found this old vanity and I want to restore it. I am new to wood projects so any help would be wonderful. Just uncertain to paint it or bring it back to life again. I like both just not sure what would look best.

The table top looks kind of rough, so why don't you paint it her favorite color and leave the rest of it as is? And cover the stool with a coordinating fabric.

Table in bad shape. Paint with chalk paint. No prep needed. All you do is paint, let dry and then apply soft clear wax. I would check out Annie Sloan chalk paint and tutorials on YouTube.

I would definately paint it. You can use chalk paint or sand lightly and spray paint. It just depends on the look you want. I refinished a desk that was in bad shape. I spray painted it after sanding and it is almost indestructable.
  • I have the exact same one that I'm redoing for my niece! I'm planning to paint it with MMS dried lavender, a smoky grey-lavender.

I recently found a coffee table and I am in the process of refinishing it. Talk about the time to strip, sand, stain, stain some more, sand and not to mention the poly process! I believe painting would be much simpler especially with chalk paint.

For a little girl or young lady I would absolutely paint it her favorite color or to make it chic paint it an off white and maybe distress it. Chalk paint would be the easiest and now they have small cans at the craft stores. You may have to mix your own color. Then reupolster the seat with a cute heavyweight fabric and she will love it! Good luck!

I would consider the furniture in her room. I prefer to have it flow, but that is all in personal preference. Keep in mind that painting is easier than refinishing. There are also other options such as tinted polyurethane. I have done each of these, it just depends on where I intended on using the piece and what look I was going for.

Painting is easier, but if you have a Hand Sander available, they are so easy and lightweight to use. Hand sand the top, and then use MinWax Sheen (about $7.99 and available in many different stain colors) over the entire piece. It's easy, just wipe on and wipe off. I just used it for the top of a dresser project I did, and it looked GREAT. And if you want to add color, just paint the inside of those side pieces next to the mirror. They probably pop out, or you could just paint right inside them.

I'm doing one myself for my 3 year granddaughter. Distressed look with antique white as my first coat and light pink on top coat. Changing the hardware to bling bling. Considering using feathers around the mirror for more bling & shabby chic look. Using the pink Paris material to re-do bench found at Hobby Lobby. Hope this helps with yours. Good luck!

Awesome that's funny I went there yesterday I think I am going to do the colors in black and pink to give it a Minnie Mouse look or going with pastels colors of pink and and lavander with butterfly's and flowers which would actually go with her room as she has butterfly's in her room now. Thank you
