They interviewed a builder who made a house with 100% Made in America products - right down to the nails used. Economists support the conclusion that if builders shifted 5% more of their purchases to American made it would create over 200,000 jobs. And the costs of American products are

within 1% of imported (as a whole). Great segment. Continues to air each night this week on ABC.
Unfortunately this type of "planning" requires more work and most folks are to lazy to pursue it. Only when wide spread availability is there will there be a shift....As an example....drywall screws...Go to your local big box store and pick up a box...read the label...MADE IN CHINA...now search trough the store to find screws NOT made in china....they do not stock them...WHY because it affects their bottom line....buy bulk screws from china that cost half those of USA origin.

If They did have both types of screws on the shelf....95% of the buyers would pick the cheaper product....If the store took the first step to ONLY sell USA products then they would sell more...but may loose customers who would simply go to another store to find the cheaper product.
Screws are just One example....doors, sinks, faucets, hinges, cabinet knobs...etc. The list in pretty endless.
I love Diane Sawyers segments on Made in America...it is inspiring and very interesting. Although it may take a little more leg work and research...the products are available and this is exactly what is needed to stimulate the economy. TMW
It makes me so mad when I want to buy an item and it is almost always made somewhere else! I always buy toys and candy for my grandchildren made in the USA.
I think the list is great and have printed it out for daily use.
If you are to lazy to look up the products and buy American then maybe it's time for you to move. Don't be part of the problem be part of the solution!
Don't forget to include food when you buy American- I try to buy organic local first, then local if it's not organic then regional, etc. Support your local farmers when you are able to.
@ Four Season Nursery, Seems that the writer of this post left out the fact it took a truck to get the product to the coast. So the $53 per truck has to be included. The hay can't walk to the ships. This is another make be leave shortage driven by the market. News is 98% BS now days, If you want the truth just open your eyes. Don't buy in to the speculators BS on Wall Street.
Since about two years I am diligently checking the 'made in ...' label. If it is not made in the USA I do not want/need/or buy it. It makes life so much simpler.
