Look for a solid wall (no windows or doors) with a main focal point. Also, consider hiring a color consultant. Totally worth the money. -
Baby H, This can be tricky if you have to many walls. An accent wall is something that will help streamline your vision when you walk into a room. It could be the fireplace wall or wall that has no windows or just the staircase wall if this is the focal point in the room. There is not set guidelines as to what wall should be an accent wall. It all depends on the lay out of the room. If you post a picture I can help you find your accent wall. Also a darker color paint will always help. -
Steve G and YaminiM are right on target. The focal point of the room dictates the location of the accent color. Do, however, consider re-paint coverage when selecting your color. Re-sale of the home can be made more difficult whenever the potential buyer encounters something "unexpected." An oxblood accent wall surrounding the fireplace gives a great British Mens' Club feel but might require repainting to welcome a larger buyer base. -
thanks I'm liking this "color consultant" so I need to figure out how to do that. I ran to the paint store and they had no ideal"""REALLY""" lol ... -
Baby H, Let me know if you need help, I can come by and take a look. -
YaminiM, I may have to put you to work... I will snap some pics later... -
Hey There! I agree with Steve G. - a focal point is key but make sure the wal isn't too huge if you are using a strong color. It really depends on the size of the room, what color and what you will be using the room for. When working with my consulting clients, I also consider what wall "jumps" out at you when you come in the room. Do you prefer that wall to be an accent or to draw your attention elsewhere in the room. Christina @ Spiral Design Color Consulting - www.spiraldesignsinc.com -
btw - I do virtual consultations if you get stuck and are interested, just let me know :-) -

@Spiral okay..Patsy.. My grand parents were Indian and I use to ride on the back of my uncles Motorcycle (he was Hawk). . So I became "babyhawk" .. YaminiM, thanks I got side track trying to narrow down paint colors. Patsy, my major artery projects are complete. Now I'm down to painting and kitchen backspash. Then I can finally get to work on my Basement. -
Hi baby H - you have several excellent designers posting here who can help...it's money well spent. You can sometimes take a page in a paint wheel....and do something like...top & lightest color for the ceiling or cut that color 50% with white.....lighter color on three walls and drop down 2 or 3 colors to select the accent wall. The colors on each page of the what we all the "fan deck" are in the same family and naturally go together. For the best results....you're best to work with a ...» -
Whatever you decide-paint the color you choose on a large board and stand it where you want the color for several days, through all the changes in light in they room. You'll be more confident when you see the color larger than a paintchip! Be brave! It's just paint! -
Agreed Karen, nothing beats actually color testing with sample boards to make sure it's exactly the color you want! -
I agree with the color board idea, I did this and then painted a shorter wall as the accent wall. I really am happy with my choice -
Love the name story...glad you have gotten projects completed...sleep well Baby Hawk!!!
