Apartment decoration

So I am decorating my apartment on a student budget. I am a barrel racer and would love to stick with a very rustic/barn/horse theme. I'm building a headboard out of our old barn boards and just sealing with a clear coat. Any other ideas anyone has or cool projects? I'm looking to have pieces that serve dual purpose like seating and storage since I only have so much space! I hope to hit up some antique shops over the weekend.

You can paint a dresser in turqouise and face the drawers with cow hide patterened fabric. Use the same fabric to cover throw pillows. Make benches or side tables out of old wagon wheels and your barn wood. If you make box benches they double as storage. Make wine bottle holders, napkin holders, towel racks etc. out of old horseshoes.

A local store redid their decor with barn boards and galvanized tin siding. It looks sharp but rustic. You could use galvanized buckets and containers for accents. Repurpose some of your tack for a coat rack, towel hanger, etc. Have fun!!

find a old door rustic and use as a headboard, or look for small wooden barrels and use as stools at a bar or table. cut the top out and cover and pad it and now you also have storage. Find a old metal egg basket turn it upside down wire it for a hanging pendant light. To use as curtain on top of tan curtains sew bandanas {colorful ones} and use to tie to tops of wooden curtain roads . Find a log and have someone cut it into lamp size wrap with rope all the way down then for decoration tie a creative knot and hang a horseshoe from the knot and find a lampshade and lay a bandana on it.

Horse Blankets/Navaho Blankets could be used as coverings for benches or Chairs or couch/Rugs.. Old Cedar Chest or feed Box could be used for storage and seating with addition of cushions and a paint or stain job on it..water buckets for storage, Lariat Rope used as Curtain Rods ( just drape your curtain fabric over it ,,. Saddle Bags hung on Wood Pegs for more storage for Mail/Bills etc.. Metal Water Trough could have a Wood Top and used for Dining or side Table ( lots of Storage in there), pallet Furniture? Check it out.. Old Racing shirts could be taken apart and using the Fabric to make Patch work style Curtains or Throws.. Denim Jeans- cut apart and sewn in to a Throw or coverlet for the bed. ( yard sales) or to reupholster Chairs. and you definitely need a place to Hang your Hats. Hey if you can find a pair of Kids Cowboy Boots and clean them up and use as utensil holder on Kitchen shelf... just hook them together some how.... Just some ideas. Oh yes Leather Belts can be used to hang stuff up with or as accent to a wall..

my husbands's office is done in cowboy decor, I used some old boots for adding greenery to the top of his desk, also got some western coat hooks for his hats and jackets. the idea that Ann said, about using some old tack would be so clever too. Just have fun and make it yours, remember it all can be reused even in other ways when you move again. an old boot can also be used on the counter in the bathroom or kitchen, they hold a lot of stuff, just hot glue a plastic bag inside to make it nice.
