How to refinish a dresser with formica peeling off

I have a bedroom suit that is from the 50's. I love it but the formica is peeling off in places. Is there a way to repair this and paint it?

Are you sure it is formica? Really looks like wood in the pic, so maybe its a veneer. If so, you can go to Home Depot and look at the veneers that they have and replace that corner easily by cutting out a piece that fits and using wood glue to attach it. Good luck!

I have seen quite few posts that recommend Bondo (used for auto body repair) for replacing missing veneer, gives a nice smooth finish and easy to paint. Alternatively, if you prefer to keep the wood finish you can buy small pieces of veneer affordably on ebay, if you can't find what you need at Home Depot.

It is veneer! I knew formica didn't sound right. Thank you!
