Karen Benke on Jun 11, 2015I would plant hibiscus, they come in a range of colors and they can be either annuals or perennials, you also could look into a hibiscus tree where they actually braid the stems and they usually bloom continuous through summer..Helpful Reply

Jennifer on Jun 12, 2015depends on how much shade that area gets. If alot, try turk's cap and/or hostas (some flower) and/or vinca. Even sweet potato vine does good in shade and the bright almost flourescent green color looks tropical. If it gets lots of sun, try bouganvilla, trumpet vine (though pot it cause it can get invasive), and hibiscus as mentioned above. Good luck!Helpful Reply

Michelle Horne on Jun 15, 2015Being in zone 5 limits what you could plant ungrounded that is tropical, but I found some that would give you a "tropical" feel.Helpful Reply

Capernius on Jan 28, 2016if you like the smell of Mint, then plant some peppermint in a plastic bucket & then sit that bucket out where the plants will be & plant several different things around the bucket. Planting mint in the bucket will keep it from spreading, yet you will still have the minty aroma. just make sure none of the runners make contact with the ground outside the bucket.Helpful Reply
