Cleaning Stove Top Grates

12 Hours
Easy
Do your burner grates get full of sticky food residue? The stuff does not come off easily with soap and water, but I have found a solution that is extremely easy and effective!
Food and grease splatters create some rather disgusting looking burner grates. Here are mine prior to cleaning. I know. Gross!
To get them clean, you'll need some ziploc bags and ammonia. Ammonia smells terrible, so make sure you work in a well ventilated area.
Do you see these grates? Can you even believe they are the same ones that were covered in grease and grime? For the full tutorial, click HERE.

Could you put the grates in a large covered plastic tote?

So would soaking some ammonia on the part of the stove top that the grates sit on work? It can't be removed, so I'm wondering about just soaking a washcloth in ammonia and spreading that out on the stove top. Or do you have a different idea for that?

How about oven racks? Any good ideas? I’m not real fond of those when I turnover units.

    Thank you 😊

  • Erin, you're a genius. I had your name confused on IG... As organic... Not organized. My bad! So sorry...but turns out....you are both!!! This is truly a great tip. 😊😊
    • @Susie @ The Chelsea Project Blog No worries. Although I don't eat organic nor buy organic clothing, when it comes to cleaning, I'm all about creating my own solutions. It's so much safer for the kids, and I hate breathing in horrendous fumes (with the exception of this post... oops... ammonia really does have the most pungent smell.)

I love this for the grates. Is there a way to do it for stove top as well?
