gift-giving? Tried and tested by Hometalk members only, please; no product representatives :) One of my all-time favorites, received from my husband's brother and his wife: Giant wooden salad server on a stand with serving utensils (you can see examples at http://www.mountainwoods.com/category.cfm/Category/1.htm but I'd shop around for price comparisons. I've seen them range from $55 to $190 elsewhere). The great thing about this: It's large and great for entertaining groups. Whenever we're invited to a party I offer to bring the salad. Having its own stand means the host/ess doesn't need to clear valuable table-top real estate for the Ceasar salad ;) Everybody comments on what a great idea/item it is; it's actually become a conversation piece, which is a great ice-breaker at parties too. Are you a woodworker? Try making one--it'll be that much more special if handmade by you! Then post a photo of the finished product here for all of us to see!
Great holiday/hostess gift idea. Woodworkers, try making one for that special, personalized touch!

Nora...One of the best house hold Items I've used over the last few years is my coffee roaster. I started roasting my own beans over 5 years ago. The stale stuff in the market is no match for what comes out of my kitchen. On top of the far superior flavor is the cost savings...I can get fair trade organic coffee for about $7 a pound...delivered. If I want to use some more basic blends I can often get it in the $5 range. The stale stuff in the market runs $12 a pound or so. I just recently upgraded my roaster...after 5+ years the old one died. These roasters work very much like a hot air popcorn popper. My new one was purchased on E-bay for about $110 ...free shipping, free t-shirt and a free 1 pound bag of coffee. A roaster like this will pay for itself in about 3-4 months based on my coffee usage. That's a great ROI. My new model is a Fresh Roast SR 300

Thanks, KMS! This is a great idea. Where do you get the coffee? Would you recommend the coffee and supplier to others?

AllClad indoor grill / griddle. I love it!! You don't have to wait for good weather to grill outside, you get good flavor like when you grill outside, it's fast, and it's also a griddle which makes it so versital. Pancakes, Eggs, bacon, kabobs... what ever you want! Got mine at William Sonoma and waited a year for it to go on sale. But I still think it was the best money I've spent in the kitchen.
