Footstool Makeover

My mother-in-law has a footstool that was handed down to her from her mother. She really wanted to be able to use it again but didn't know how to make into something that look good inside the house, instead of the garage where it had been.
Obviously the stool had been well used and loved. It was covered in stains and nicks.
I removed the top of the stool and painted the bottom in chalk paint. I know this is an old piece and refinishing it would have been beautiful, my MIL really wanted it white with an Americana theme.
To keep with the American theme of the rest of my mother-in-laws home I stenciled a flag on some burlap. To do this I used painters tape to make my stencil, then used pale gray paint to paint the flag.
After everything was dry I covered the old top the stenciled burlap. And reattaced it to the legs.
I used dark wax on the bottom to bring out the details. I personally love nicks of old wood and love how dark wax will bring out the nicks, while still making it look beautiful.
Before and after! I'm happy to say my mother-in-law loved the way her stool turned out. I smile every time I see her using it.
