Flower gardening has been one of my favorite past times especially since my health has deteriorated, it makes me get outside, get some sunshine, keeps me moving, makes me smile, etc. Please tell my how to safely keep deer from eating my flowers.

Irish Spring soap either shaved around the plants' base or hung from a tree. Pin wheels placed around the garden bed are a great deterrent as long as there's a little breeze. I've been doing this or over 25 years.

Thank you. Four does have just discovered my flowers and vegetables. Shooed them away this morning. Of course they moved away and then stood there looking at me with an expression of how dare you!

Milorganite works well for me. Deer hate the smell and it is a good soil additive. It needs to be refreshed every six weeks or so.

Dear Janette, We have a deer herd that browse our plants, trees and flowers nightly. After trying all the conventional repellents I found the most inexpensive way to thwart them is to buy cheap, floppy, lightweight bird netting. I gently lay the netting on the plants and unless the plants push green leaves or flowers through the netting holes the deer stay away. Every couple of weeks I pull up the netting and relay it on top of any new plant growth. You cannot see the netting (it's fine) so be careful you don't trip on it. Also it catches snakes who become entangled. I buy it in 5'x100' packages at Tractor Supply, Lowe's, or Home Depot and reuse it every year.

A dilute solution of Dr Bonner's Peppermint Castille soap seems to do the trick, I do a very dilute solution, maybe 1:10 and just spray it around after a rain storm.

Tie bars of Irish spring soap to the tree or bush. It's an odor they do not care for, or u can use human hair. Placed around the tree or bush. Good luck henry

I have tried the deer repellent sprays from Walmart and the hair clippings (that was gross!). Neither method worked, the deer laughed at me! I will try the Irish Spring soap or bird netting to safely keep the deer away. They haven't eaten any flowers yet this year but I have seen them in adjoining neighbors' yards.
