In order to honor and celebrate our service people, I wanted to make something colorful and special to hang on my door for Memorial Day and Independence Day. Using some scrap wood, I made this patriotic flag as a cheerful welcome sign for these special holidays. And by adding some bright flower blooms, this door decoration could also be displayed all summer long!
This sign is constructed with pieces of wood and can be hung inside or outside. Although I decorated my sign like the US flag, you could use this same craft idea to make a variety of flag or welcome signs. I also added artificial flowers to brighten my flag display, but this is optional.
I designed this project to be made with scrap wood. I used wood lathe, but you can use paint stirrers or any thin wood scraps. You can adjust the size, number of wood pieces, and measurements based on the scrap wood you have on hand.
There's a few ways you can design your wood pieces to make your flag. To start, you will need the materials below. To see all my materials, more photos, and step by step directions, visit my blog post below:

@Hannah V Thanks! I have to admit, I love how it looks on our fence. I might hang it on our garden gate instead of our front door. Thanks so much for your comments and support!
