Small or large tiles??

We are removing carpet from our master bath (yeah, have hated it for the 9 years we've lived here) and finally replacing it with tile. The bathroom is long and narrow. What would be the better choice for making it look wider-- small mosaic (vintage look) or rectangular (contemporary look)? Thanks!!

I would think that a herringbone pattern in a rectangular or plank pattern would help to broaden the room and create a lot of interest. It's a beautiful look.

Large tiles, we used that in our 1/2 bath and it looks beautiful and it actually makes the room look larger, don't know why but it does, we love it. Ours is 5 1/2 x 5 1/2 room and we used the 18" tiles.

We had 1 foot square tile pattern sheet vinyl that was damaged; made the 12' x 6' room look very choppy. Since then we put down a fairly thick vinyl tile that looks like tumbled travertine; this is a 2' x 1' tile that we grouted with a tan grout made for this. I cannot tell you how much NICER and more cohesive and elegant the room looks now! We still need to update some of the room (we had not planned to re-do flooring at this very moment!) but I am happy that we did this and what we used. When we were shopping I actually took the vinyl tile over to the actual travertine area and compared--very very close in both color and texture but no special sub-flooring needed. We did the entire bathroom--12' long by 6' wide at the widest point less the tub and vanity (single) ; tiles; grout; floor primer; a scraper for getting up the edges of the old tiles (you might not need this) grout float ; sponges for LESS than $100. We did the work ourselves and we could have done it in one long day; due to work etc this took about 3 split up days. Tiles etc. were from LOWES and were very easy to work with making cuts etc. Even my adult kid the Design Snob thought this was real stone and thought it looked GREAT.

i would use a rectangular tile lit 3" x 6" or longer. i would keep it a neutral tone and maybe even considered painting the ceiling a slightly darker shade that will draw the eye up.

Use large, less grout lines to clean and room looks bigger, less busy.
