Trash to Treasure Tray Makeover

My friend lives a couple of blocks down the road from me. The other day, I was walking by her house and this tray was on the curb. I was with her when she bought it at a garage sale. She was going to give it a makeover but never did. Anyway, when I saw the tray, I got the idea to take it home, fix it up and surprise her with it.
The tray had good bones. I loved the handles and the size of the tray. The color combination was just no good. In person, the brown color looks like something you would find in a baby diaper.
I took the tray apart and sanded the tray until it was smooth. I removed the pink paint from the handles with nail polish remover. I also changed the decorative paper.
I used a dish towel for the center of the tray. The color was neutral and paired with the white, my friend can use it anywhere. The stamped pattern has a simple, modern feel to it. It also has a beachy feel to it- perfect for summer. Three coats of chalk paint and one dish towel later, the tray has a new life.
