Mu grandparents' 100+ year old house had been untended for many, many years. We finally found someone to demo the house, but wanted to use materials to build a hunting cabin. Since I'm all about re-purposing, it sounded like new life to me. I salvaged a few nasty pieces of furniture and lumber before demo began. Also, snatched the old fireplace mantel from living room wall. I now have a new queen headboard that is full of character and history. My, if that mantel could talk!
my grandparents' old house had not been lived in for MANY years (except by rats, birds, etc.)
I uncovered 5 layers of paint
after MANY hours of sanding
didn't want to lose the layers of texture and colors, so did a whitewash finish
attached to my bedroom wall with one pair of hook and eye screws
used door frames from the old house to 'frame' the mantel to make queen-sized
