I planted 6 abelias two summers ago becuase I liked the flowers they produced on plants elsewhere in my yard.

The new plants have not produced flowers although the plants look healthy and the leaves look good. The plants get plenty of sun and water. What can I do?

Hi Larry, Abelias need alot of sun with moist acidic soil. Are you getting really dense foliage with the leaves? If so, it usually means they need more sun. Have you pruned them yet? The abelias will flower on new growth, so a light pruning may be needed.

For more blooms use bone meal and fertilize with Azalea food as it is on the acid side. And yes, the more sun the more blooms. Also BTW, the variegated variety is superb.

Prune in spring if needed to shape them up. Fertilize 2 - 3 times per year if you want them to grow bigger, 1x if not.
