Backyard upcycling

What you can do to recycle tires and add character to your backyard. I ran across this on the web tonight, and when I have to get new tires I am going to try this.

Info is from this website http://www.flamingpetal.co.nz/recycled-lawn-...

A lot have been asking for instructions, I don't have them but Tamara Jansen has posted excellent instructions on a planter she did - ...»

  • calling in our dear friends mother to help with the sewing. she hand sewed the entire piece after it took me a few hours to choose the right feel for the fabric. I love DIY projects, but sewing would require me to sit still!
  • So much Rot! We chose Elmers wood rot stabilizer and a decent wood conditioner. Of course replacing the base boards with 3 boards from a 200 yr old barn we helped tear down
  • She threw me a little attitude, but I gave her a 2 day time out, then she was fine!

The Carved Cherry Media Chest

I was asked to design and build a free standing chest on which to place a large television and house various media components and speakers, with practical consideration of the size, ...»
proportion and equipment ventilation. As audio/visual technology changes continually, the chest was to be of heirloom quality that would retain its individual character and value long after today's purpose is obsolete. Aesthetically, the design evolved as the chest occupies one of the focal points of an arts and crafts style great room. The home is in the town of Cambria, California. A location that is also home to one of the last stands of Monterey Pine forests on the West Coast.

Planning is essential. Concept sketches to dimensional renderings to working drawings, selections of wood, joinery techniques and finishes must be precalculated. My greatest satisfaction continues to be in the process of developing the idea and sifting through the practical ways of making it. This is certainly true as I developed the doors for the chest. The interlocking and open carving of the tree motif is designed and structured for years of enjoyment.

Home Maintenance & Repairs: Anyone how how to patch a hairline crack in the tub?

Yes ...my tub is old...but the only problem with it is a hairline crack on the bottom, I am just afraid of the floor boards below will rot out, I have had a piece of gorilla tape on it ...»
for the past year, seems to work, and I can't afford a remodel. I think the clearcoat wore off thru the years, it's not visible...unless you look close. I am not skilled at this stuff...but I sure will try. Thank You!

Plastic or acrylic tubs often begin to develop spider cracks in the finish coat as time goes ...»
on. There are many products that can be used to refinish the tub but I would suggest you contact someone such as Bath Fitters. These people make a mold of your tub and install a new liner that fits over and around the tub making it look brand new in just one day.

If the crack is bad enough to be leaking, there is not other option other then tearing it all out and installing another tub in its place.
