Cleaning & Organization: how to polish tarnished silverware

I wanted to try to sell some old silver pieces - mostly silverplate. I spent an afternoon with silver polish and silver polish gloves. When I took a few pieces to a consignment shop, I ...»
was asked "will they shine up? We don't accept unpolished pieces." How do I get a polish that will meet the approval of the consignment shops.

  • My living/dining area. I've added a TV since this picture was taken, but that's about it!

Do you have a New Year's Resolution?

Confession time! This is my living/dining room. As you can see it is stark, white and minimal. I'll admit, I like it that way ~I'm odd like that :) but I've decided it's time to make a change and inject some color. I think New Year's Resolutions should be about challenging ourselves to do something that will ultimately make us happy (funny how we sometimes resist that), so this is mine. What's yours? Please use this hashtag in your post so we can all see it: ...»

Add something vertical. A tall plant near that great window wouldn't be too big a commitment

    Woodbridge Environmental ... on Sep 28, 2012
There have been many successful attempts at doing this. And most likely just about the same ...»
    amount of failures.

One must remember, paint needs something to adhere to. A laminated surface is typically not a material that accepts paint well or provides a surface in which the paint material will "bite" into the surface making it more durable.

So the difference between one and another is the product used, but more important, the quality of the prep that is applied prior to putting the finish on.

Remember even though the surface you would think does not get that much abuse, you would be wrong. The cabinet doors, faces, drawers and interiors probable are more abused then many counters are. .People simply forget the amount of wear and tear they get with slamming doors, bumping of pots n pans, scrubbing because of spills and grease.

So choose a good quality finishing product and spend a lot of time prepping the surface carefully so what ever it is that you end up using will last for many years.

Thank you Woodbridge Environmental. I am following up on the Femco coupling. ...»

I had a professional inspection done on the house about 3 years ago. The main issues as I recall were need for GGCIs an repairing mortar in the front steps. The only plumbing issues were the overflow channels in the bathroom sinks.

As Gilda Radner said, "It's always something."

Gardening: how can I rig a system to hang topsy-turvy tomato planters to thwart the deer?

Last year I used shepherds' hooks, but they were too low.
