Little flowers from my yard

These grow around my yard, and usually around late May / early June they flower. Does anyone knows its name?

  • This basement office now has a beautiful view of a small waterfall. Open the window to enjoy the sound! 3
  • Creative use of rock provides inspiring scenery. 1
  • Isn't this view much better than the ordinary corrugated piece of metal you typically see out a basement window?
  • A mix of plants and rock was used to provide a fantastic view.
  • Cleaning the windows becomes more enjoyable, too. No more stooping into a spider-ridden window well.

Waterfalls for Window Wells

Create a lower level "room with a view" when you transform an unsightly window well into a Pondless Waterfall. Besides a gorgeous view, you'll enjoy the soothing sound of running water ...»
when you open the window. The waterfall keeps re-circulating so no water enters the basement window. Watch the video that shows the rest of this amazing landscape. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VhSZyfidz4c

  • Sam our first fish. We lost a few and I'm sure some oversized frogs got them. Started out with 14, Sam was the biggest so I know now to get larger ones. About 6" so far. Likes to be hand fed and waiting when she sees us.

  • Same pond just bigger. Stucture was 4 1/2 feet tall and wrapped around the end with the 4 cascading tiers. Here is a pic of the finish in August 2011. The natural rock came from our ground from making flower beds and grading out our own driveway that was paved. We are on a rock vein here. Every shovel was a rock. Digging bar was our best friend. Unfortunately the earthquake collapsed it in August. Glad I had pics to remember it. It took a year and half to get all this rock from the ground and continuously add to it. I still have all of it and thinking I may just do another one in the back yard. 2

  • What was left at the end of a 5.8 earthquake. Sad and really miss it but I will rebuild. All removed now. 1
  • Replacement pond, which I posted just 2 days ago in another post about my flagstone patio and flagstone pond project. I have to admit the maintaining is a little easier. But plans to do another tiered pond is in the works. 1

First pond ever...

This is my first pond..in the beginning from the first photo. April 2009..I will rebuild in a different place w/ concrete..lesson learned. I miss her. An earthquake destroyed it in 2011...But I will rebuild early fall.

Ponds are one thing you can also improve on. I started with 2 small preformed ponds about 10 ...»
feet apart with a stream between. the smaller being about 30 gal. As the fish grew, I knew I needed to grow bigger. Changed the 30 gal to 200 gal preformed still with the stream. The fish, koi especially got bigger and needed deeper. took the 200 gal out and had a 8 X 12 ft dug that is about 30 in deep. the upper pond flows into it directly, did away with the stream. Got rid of the goldfish, they propagated to much. Just have koi. Went thru Hurricane Rita, lost all koi but placostamus lived thru the uck. when got pond cleaned up and electricity on after 3 weeks, eventually got 3 koi. Now have 11, 8 are the babies of the original. Have sold many other babies over the past 5 years. Have a stone deck around it but will take it up this year, replace the liner as it is starting to crack and put in a composite deck around. have a nice pergola also above so water does not get to hot. There is always something you can do to improve or make your pond better. Have fun and enjoy. I love watching the koi swim around it is so relaxing.

  • Several of the newer blossoms are very small. Hardly any petals.
  • Also deformed. Some petals missing. I didn't see any bugs. Should I spray with Ortho Max or Sevin anyway?

Gardening: Does anyone know why my cosmos have started getting small blossoms with short petals?

I don't fertilize them much because I don't want them to flop over. I do deadhead every couple days. The blossoms on the right are fine, but the left blossoms are tiny, almost distorted and have very short petals.

When I did the picture mine did the same thing, got a door. I agree with Douglas, there must ...»
be a bug in the flower. do as he says if that does not work then try an organic pest spray. Walmart carries a brand but I don't remember the name.

  • I must have something like this in my future garden. I have seen this before in Magazines and have tried to research on where to find them. Would anyone happen to know where to find planters like these? 7
