A new kitchen inspired by an ad from 1959

I love my mid-century house by the beach, but I've always regretted the fact that the previous owners ripped out the original kitchen and put in one of those characterless and cheap ...»
oak-trimmed laminate kitchens that for some inexplicable reason were so popular in the 1980s. When I finally bit the bullet and decided to re-do the kitchen, I wanted to create something that was appropriate to the house and found my inspiration in a 1959 ad for a Hotpoint kitchen. It was both practical (tiled walls) and handsome, with a great punch of color from a tiled accent wall containing the turquoise (!) wall oven. While I ultimately decided a wall oven wouldn't work for me, and I went for the durability of stainless (the salt in the air is tough on things here at the beach), I think I've ended up the with a kitchen that honors the inspiration, and my home's history.

Upcycled Flat Porch Entry Table

I'll admit that I have no idea what to call this thing, the before OR the after. But I took a old vanity mirror support thingy (found in the trash) and turned it into a flat entryway ...»
table. I know, that makes no sense...see pics for clarification or read more at http://www.domesticimperfection.com/2012/09/...# #recycle

Gardening

A Rake is not just for raking...I found this idea in the Flea Market Style magazine, love this magazine (I wasn't paid in anyway to say this, soley my own opinion) , they have so many great inspiring ideas! I thought it was such a cute and cleaver idea! We don't have a lot of places available for hanging baskets, so I thought this idea would be a perfect solution for hanging baskets.

A rake isn't just for racking leaves, It also can ...»

Rustic bathroom decorating, DIY decorating.

I have a very small bathroom off the kitchen which gets a lot of traffic from guests and visitors. I could not decide on the decorating theme when I found this cute wallpaper border with ...»
birdhouses and so it began. I made custom frames to fit some of my favorite magazine photos, added a few handmade birdhouses and outhouses. It was still missing something when the picket fence idea struck me. I also put a few wallpaper birdhouses and an ivy trail on the back of the door ( too hard to capture a pic). I am still waiting to use the branch trimmings from my wisteria plant th hang on the ceiling and maybe add some twinkling lights? The bathroom has become the talk of the neighbors and I have met some new friends who heard about it and stopped by to take a peek.

Yard Art, Recycling

Keeping junk out of the landfill. So I have finally run out of clay pots and have moved on to the next best thing. Coffee cans, soup cans, paint cans, teapots, chandelier parts and even anchovy cans for the feet. Meet my newest garden helper.

I am proud of my kitchen

I remodeled my 1970's kitchen myself. I refaced the cabinets with wainscoting and picture frame molding. I did my own tile work on the countertops and backslpash. I also made my own roman shade above the sink.
