I've had FANTASTIC results using a product called Sweeney's Mole Repellent. I blogged about it ...»
(and included the company's youtube vid) so if you'd like to read it, here's the link: http://smallhousebiggarden.wordpress.com/201...

I first started using Sweeney's in January and 6mos later and 6mos later I'm still mole-free. For best results, shake the stuff around every 6-8wks!

Gardening: Can anyone tell me what this herb is?

I impulse-purchased an "herb garden" last weekend (I have limited space, so seven herbs all in one place appeals), and I don't know what one of the plants is. I'd like to use it in the applications it is most intended (or if it is not really an herb, not try to make it one). It is the one on the left of this shot that has the long, narrow leaves. I know what the mint on the far right is :) Thank you!

how about an oasis or two in the middle of the yard? or can you plant a tree that will grow ...»
huge in the dead middle? The two-family VERY urban house of my childhood had just that: a nice big elm dead center and believe me, that was unusual for inner city living!

I guess it depends on what you envision happening in your yard? will there be kids who need to play stickball or is yours an adult oriented lifestyle? Another major question is how long will you be calling this place "home?" If it's your forever house make a long term planting plan and chip away at it as money permits!

Kong Sunflower!

I just posted this photo as part of my blog's Wordless Wednesday meme, but thought it might be nice to include it at Hometalk, too.!

I have no idea where this sunflower came from! Although I've planted many varieties over the years, Kong was never one of them!

If you'd like to read about the snafu involving last year's sunflower seeds (and see pics of the results) click this : http://smallhousebiggarden.wordpress.com/201...

Although you can't see it in this photo, another bloomspike is growing (FAST) from a lower stem!

Dendrobium Kingianum Midnight Velvet (orchid)

This orchid has been blooming non-stop since October! Here's the latest picture, taken this morning around 8am! I've included the link to the blog post I wrote about it on 3/2/13. From there you should be able to see other photos of it from the past 6mos.
