The turn-on handle on the cold side is stripped and cracked. Its very dated too (present set-up has left and right turn-on knobs, sprayer, and the faucet ).

Measure your existing so you make sure to cover all the openings that are currently in use. Pick out a single lever faucet with pull out spray feature. Ie the sprayer is built into the faucet and pulls away from it. Uninstall old and replace with new. Piece of cake. Btw there are only two basic configuration wide spread or narrow. Widespread is probably what you have: approximately 8". The narrow is only about 4". Happy choosing and good luck.

Hi ...I am also a "dare devil"...I will always try to do something myself before I pay someone else. However, I tried to replace a very old wideset faucet in a bath, and was only able to remove the handles...could not get the spout out as it was rusted in place. But, by removing even some of the old pieces ended up saving me about $100 in labor. The plumber was able to remove the spout and put the new faucet in in about 20 minutes! So, even if you decide to have the plumber install the new faucet, you'll save $ by doing the "demo" yourself. Also, make sure you turn off the water under the sink before you start unhooking the plumbing :-) If you don't already have shut-offs under the sink, have the plumber install those too, as they will save you a lot of grief down the road...Good Luck!
