Need some ideas about a porch

Please ignore the snow, we get snow maybe 2 times in 5-7 years. I am wondering about putting a porch on this house to update the flat front. We don't mind the look of the house, we just really would like to give it some character. Any suggestions?

Screen Porch Added to 1925 Cottage --this post had porch that was added I don't really know how to reference it. Just look around on this site you will find lots of ideas. A small porch coming out over the step with columns. Lot of designers watch this site you will get some great ideas.

I found a pic of a house very similar to yours & the after when they added an amazing porch. Maybe this will give you some ideas.

An eyebrow porch would be the easiest route. It just covers the doorway https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQ1NyUgVBsNqr0YehfoDQTvIKrVgAsKgOpb_Ud_ViXlyjTacCUG

Think an overhang with some architectural detail in the wood trim and with pillars would really suit your style of home. Sort of a Greek style. Nice home.

yes, put a porch all the way across the front, right at the top of the brick! big porch columns and two wood rocking chairs & a porch swing! beautiful!

It's hard to tell from this picture, but it looks like you have a hipped roof? Maybe a 4 square style house? That's going to be important in deciding what kind of porch roof you'll want. You can do anything from a small portico porch that just covers the doorway, to a full porch the width of your house or one that even wraps around. You'd be wise to hire an architect or a draftsperson who should be able to tell you what's going to work best based on the style of your house and your needs/wants. Here are a few inspiration photos.

@Centrd thanks for your awesome pictures. I like the wrap around porch a LOT.

Here are some simpler portico style porches that just cover the door. Remember, whatever you choose can change the style of your home, you can make it look more craftsman, more french, depends on what you like. And I threw in one more wide porch as well.

The cheapest solution, would be to purchase a canvas awning. They may sell standard size awning at lowes or Home Depot, I can't remember which one I saw it at. Check online.Or you can have a custom one made at an awning store, like an boat store.Years ago, I grew up with a small portico over our door, with 2 benches facing each other on either side of our door.I think it was a really nice idea, especially if someone comes to your house and you do not want to bring them into your home. That was actually the reason why porches where created. They were supposed to be a "holding" area for unexpected guests.an awning is also great when you are trying to open the door when it's raining out.The examples Centrd sent you are really nice and diverse.Love picture#1!
