A friend has what appears to be a steel bathtub with an enamel (or porcelain ?) coating.

It looks like something may have been dropped and chipped it slightly. Starting to see a little rust forming. Is there a product to do a spot repair? I can imagine this thing is only going to continue to get worse.

Home Depot has a porcelain repair kit not sure how well it works but it comes in a small bottle like fingernail polish. Maybe your friend needs to have the tub resurfaced they have kits for those too, or there are some companies that could do the job.

Clean the rust off first....the touch-up repair paint is sometimes in the paint section and sometimes in with appliances...I guess to touch-up stoves. Keep the paint limited to the repair area as it prob won't match.

We have used epoxy on a number of our flip houses bathtubs...it doesn't hold up well at all. Most we've seen is maybe a year...the product doesn't hold up against the cleaners people use to soap scum.

I have the same type of tub and had it refenished, it came out great. The process is just like painting a car so it is not a job you would want to do on your own. You need to strip, sand, prime and paint. If you know someone who paints cars your all set. The paint is auto paint just with a different name. Any small scratches or nicks can be fixed with the repair kit Frank C mentioned or an autopaint touch up kit and belive it or not fingernail polish.

Once chipped it will always be an issue. Yes you can refinish the tub, and that will last several years, but its not as good as the original finish from the factory. Touch up kits work fine also, but you will see that repair as it will never blend into the tub. Both will stop if applied correctly the rusting, but both are not a permanent repair.

Hi Roger, I've used a company in the past to repair tub chips. The tub will look like new. SPR Countertop and Tub Repair 770-436-7075 in Marietta
