Old table needs restoration

Marlo Brown on Jun 24, 2015If you want to add character to your table so that you can still make good use of it; this is a tip of mine that I used. I took a cloth with soap and water to clean it off with a damp rag. Than dried it completely to make sure all dust and chipping was off. I purchased two types of chalk board paint (1. Americana Clear Chalkboard Coating (DS107), 2. Americana Chalky Finish for Glass Ultra Matte Acrylic Paint(Opaque - ADCG07), and 3. Apple Barrel Chocolate Bar (20578E) Matte Acrylic Paint. Step 1 I took the (1) chalk coating and covered the top part of the table following the directions. the first coat dries really fast if you put it on really good with a paint brush or sponge brush. Let dry. Step 2 Once that dried, I took the (2) chalk board finish and put it over the (1) coating. It started to mix together ( I thought I had messed up; BUT I DIDN'T). It doesn't matter if the first coat (1) mixes with coating (2). It looks better and gives a whole lot of character to the table. Let dry over night. Step 3 I put one more coating of the (1) and let that dry. The color came out to be a grayish blue color. I Loved It! Step 4 Now for the rest of the table. I took (4) Plastic Wood Carpenters Wood Filler and filled in any dings or scratches with a spackle knife. I was not neat with it because I wanted some character in the tables because I wanted my tables to look newer country but classy contemporary sheek (Yes, that's what I'm Calling It (LOL), so I let that dry for 30 minutes and then painted the table with the (3). It came out great. They do not look like the same tables. Now I have to do my sisters tables too! So, I hope this helped you.Helpful Reply

Lis Ricketts on Jun 25, 2015Use a fine grit sandpaper- 220. Light sanding to get any surface finish off. Can't see water marks on the top, but if you have them, give them a good sanding. Wipe with a clean towel and vacuum. Use a tack cloth to remove any remaining dust. Choose a stain color and follow directions. Seal with wax for light use, two coats of poly for heavy use.Helpful Reply

Lukejakeleahsnama on Jun 25, 2015I have painted several vintage items recently with chalk paint. It's really easy to use, covers without priming and gives a great flat finish. After painting, you rub on paste wax to seal it and give it a slight sheen. Give it a try!Helpful Reply

Angie on Jun 26, 2015My suggestion would be to paint it a fresh crisp bold white color and find some gold or silver nail head trimming to place around the large and small circle giving it a whole new look....or maybe paint it either all black or all white or even a dark shade of grey and paint only the feet with a bright gold paint...once finished I would take it a step further by placing a really cute lamp and a few accessories on top and a few of any favorite books on the bottom...this is a really cute table....hope to see pics of your new redecorated table soon..enjoyHelpful Reply
