Garage shelves

What are the best (cost wise) shelves for a garage? I want to store covered tubs (16") at about 7'. The garage is 10'. The wall is 23' long. I was thinking I would buy a piece of plywood and have it cut to 3 16"x8' shelves, then 3 would more than cover the wall. What bracket would be best?

The large metal L-brackets are easy to install, strong and fairly inexpensive. If the tubs are heavy, you might want to edge the shelves with a strip of solid wood to keep them from flexing.

No, I mean a strip of wood on the front edge or just under it, like a lip. You could get 1x2" lumber or smaller and glue and nail it on.

we found a bunch ( probably 6 or 7 )of old bifold doors from the renovations in an apartment building. They had three finished sides and hubby hung them with the hinge side to the wall like floating shelves- then added a quick 2 x 4 frame to keep it from bending when the rubbermaid totes went on. It was quick and best of all CHEAP!!!!

@MaryEllen Brown Yes, I like those and will probably use some as well. These are for a 7ft. high shelves for things we want to put away for the grandchildren - years from now. Thanks! They have those shelves at Sams too.

We can find 12x14 brackets for a reasonable cost but the 16" ones are too high.

@Cathy David Rieger 12x14" brackets should be OK for 16" wide shelves.

I like the plastic ones that come apart, especially for temporary storage, they are economical and yet they hold up. they come apart so when you are done with them you can mostly get them flat again. Costco has them.
