What causes the brown rotty bottoms on my tomatoes?

My tomatoes are in containers on porch I have grown tomatoes for years and never had this "whatever" before. Please help.

    It is called bloom rot. A lot say it is something to do with ph of the soil

    They probably need some calcium added to the soil.

    In our region it's called 'blossom end rot" and has to do with the contents of the soil. As someone already mentioned, you may have to add some calcium. An easy way to do that is to grind up your egg shells and place them on top of the soil. As you water, the calcium from the shells will leech into the soil. Or...you can go to your handy-dandy garden center and speak to their resident expert to learn of commercially-made additives you can use.

    Yep, blossom end rot. And yes you need to add calcium. But they might very well need some magnesium as well. I would give them some Sol U Cal for the calcium and A good dose of epsom salt for the magnesium.
