Patriotic Birdhouse

The Fourth of July is just around the corner for us here in the U.S., and I thought this little birdhouse I found for $2 at a thrift store a while back would be the perfect candidate for a little red, white, and blue makeover!
Here she is all decked out in patriotic pride:
And here is how she started out:
For this fun make over, I removed the top part so it wouldn't be so tall. Then I gave it a couple of coats of spray paint I had left over from our Santa's Workshop.
I painted the blue and white details with acrylic craft paint.
I was originally planning to hang it, but decided to make a post for it instead...
How fun is that? I used Frogtape to tape off the stripes, and then more spray paint. I needed to be able to hammer the post into the ground, so I added scrap pieces from the post to the bottom like you see below:
Then I just mounted it on top of the post. I sprayed the entire bird house with a few coats of clear acrylic sealer in a matte finish to protect it from the elements.
I has been just sitting in a bin in my garage for a year or two. Now it has a special place in my garden! See this plus nearly 50 more patriotic inspired posts at the link to my blog below!
