How do I give a gold spray painted lamp a more burnished look?

I recently spray painted a shiny brass lamp with a duller brash finish. I'd like it to be more dimensional. Would waxing it help it look less flat? What kind of wax would you recommend?
This is the lamp in question. I'd like a more dimensional, burnished brass look. How to?

There are several options. You can use a dark wax, but be sure to use a clear wax first. You can also dry brush a darker paint or even 2 or 3 shades of deeper colors. A lot depends on the look you want to achieve. I would recommend painting a board with your brass color & then experimenting with different techniques until you get the look you want. If you really want a realistic look, buy a section of pipe & practice on this.

Thanks Debi. This is excellent, detailed advice! I like the idea of different shades with a dry brush technique.

Lots of great spray paints in bronze, silver, old gold colors. That would be the easiest way to go.

Thanks Barb! I will investigate layering different shades and possibly wax as suggested by Debi.
