Hi, I ordered a plant online called rose sensation false climbing hydrangea . It is a relative of climbing hydrangeas. I got it today and it is in a tiny 2 inch pot. It takes year for this vine to establish. Should I plant it or let it grow in a pot over the winter?

I always look at the bottom of the pot my plants are in. Do you see any roots coming out? If so, I would transplant it into a 4-6" pot.

I would definitely repot in a larger pot so the roots will actually "grow" this year. Transplant this spring. I would keep it in a shady area this summer.

I have found that ordering from mail order is a wait and see proposition. I no longer am enticed by the beautiful pictures and the in hand 2 inch plant. I created a nesting bed for plants that need a kick start. When the plants are big enough for the Garden, I then move the plant. I would suggest wintering your plant and then gradually harden off the plant for spring planting. Happy gardening.

If you have nurseries within a 25 - 30 mile radius, go to them. So many online plant nurseries are scam artists and hot worth the expenditure & time.
