Poopy Barn Door Photo Display

As soon as my hubby finished building our mantel, I was anxious to decorate it!
When you get a load of this "before", you'll see why I was so anxious. Hello, BORE!
I remembered seeing an old barn door or something in the shed and asked hubby to bring it in the house for me. I sure expected him to at least WIPE OFF THE OLD MANURE, DIRT, GRIME, ETC before he brought it right in to our nice living room!!! He plopped it on the floor, ancient animal poop and all and said "Is this what you wanted?" and went back outside. Bless his heart.
A paint scraper took the first few layers and big chunks off, and then there was lots of scrubbing and wiping.
I braided three strands of jute rope together to hang it on the wall, and printed off an 11.x14 family photo in black and white and Wal Mart which I put on a white piece of paper with silver thumbtacks. Then I pushed thumbtacks in all around the edge of the white paper to hold it all in place and it was good to go!
This may get updated in the next few days however, as my mother is sure a black picture frame would look much better than the tacks. What do you think?

Well, I agree with mom as for as the tacks go. LOL... One technique I sometimes use, is to burn the edges around a quote or photo to add a charming effect. You might try burning around the edges of the copy of the photo and attaching the photo with double-sided tape.
