What is the formula to make something rust

I am going to cut this barrel in half and put on my wall. I want to add additional screws around the metal ring. How can I age or rust the screws so they blend in with the others? Thanks for your help.

Leave untreated ones in water for a while and let them rust to the look you want. That will do it.

apple cider vinegar and salt. Play with the amounts to get the color to match perfectly. Great idea though and good luck. Post a pic when your done.

Move to the shore. Takes longer but it's more fun.

plain vinegar with table salt works well to rust things quickly, let them sit in the vinegar overnight or until the screws look like you want them to. You can also add a bit of baking soda to hasten the process. Be sure your screws are steel and not galvanized metal or some other metal like brass that doesn't rust but turns a very pretty green.
