DIY Wood Shutters for $0

I absolutely love shopping my house to find supplies that I can create projects without spending money! This project was a pure example of that!
I have had a spare fence panel sitting behind my shed for some time. After my husband tried dumping it to the curb for bulk pickup, and me dragging it back in...I knew I had to use the wood for something special (before he dragged it back to the curb again)

Since my back yard is getting a mini makeover I knew I wanted to add wood shutters and the wood from the fence was going to be the perfect look and amount that I needed.
After banging out each panel carefully and cutting each piece to size we assembled the shutters and added them to our two back windows using screws through the horizontal pieces. What a difference...and with the natural rustic look of the wood there was no reason to refinish the wood after sanding.
I just love how the black and white striped umbrella and wood tone from the shutters pair nicely together here. Now to get some new chairs or DIY chairs and table...and this backyard will be less of an eye sore.
