Patio or deck ideas

I have an area of yard that was dug out when we added on our back porch. To give you an idea of the depth the porch is 4 cider block high. It has a bank of dirt between the house and the yard. Meaning the whole area the length of the house was dug straight across for the porch but we could only build 24 feet long and ran out of money. The part dug out is the length of the porch and width. Does anyone have any idea what I can do with the lower ground would it look strange to have a sunken patio?

Hi Diana, can you upload a photo of the area? This will help us give you the best advice.

A photo would be very helpful. However, the sunken patio idea would be something very unique, as long as you don't live in a flat area with standing water issues. You should consider drainage before you decide other wise you will have a "water feature" whether you want it or not. I think it would be cool if designed right.

I like the idea of another level of your patio. I have seen this done and it was beautiful. The steps should be the length of the porch. You want them wider and closer together. This makes the deck and the addition flow together. Don't know if I am describing this properly so I want to know if you understand. I just googled, "how to add additional deck," and found hundreds of ideas. Please check this information. Take your time and make notes on the ones you like. Then, set back and think about your project for a few days and go back to the websites and view several times. If you cannot make up your mind then wait a little while...trust me, your answer will come to you. Hope this helps.
