Happy 4th of July! Here is a little "how-to" that uses paint stirrers to make this adorable flag. Let's get started...
First, go to your local home improvement store and ask for some paint stirrers. I received a handful with a smile! Please note, you need 8 paint stirrers. One will be cut in half to support and hold together your flag! In addition to the 8 paint stirrers, you will need: newspaper to cover your workspace painters tape acrylic paint in red, white, blue, and gold acrylic antiquing medium a paint brush sandpaper glue - I used E-6000
Start by laying 3 of the stirrers together and tape off the section that you want painted blue. I painted both sides and then took them apart and carefully painted the edges. When the blue paint is thoroughly dry, retape the blue side of the stirrers and paint the rest of them red or white. Remember, your top stick will be blue and red. Continue painting until all the stirrers are covered. Nothing is attached yet.
The next step is sanding. I was going for a distressed look, so I sanded all of the edges and then wiped them with antiquing medium. This pic shows the top 3 antiqued.

After that, I painted a wooden star gold and it was time to assemble the flag.  The 8th paint stirrer was cut in half and I used E-6000 to attach it to the back.  The star was glued on and it was done. To see what i used to hand it, stop by the blog.
Wishing you a safe and happy Independence Day!
