What is a good flooring to use when updating?

My home was built in 1992 and has vinyl flooring in the bathroom. Time to update and all the idea pages I see show wood, ceramic tile, or laminate flooring. I was hoping to use vinyl because I know how to put this in. But...I don't want the redo to look dated before I even finish. Is modern vinyl an ok choice?

I just did my kiddos bathroom. Vinyl tiles with grout. Easy and looks pretty sweet. (Added a photo for you, it was taken when I was working on it)

Wood and laminate are typically not good choices for bathrooms due to moisture. Laminate is particularly moisture sensitive. Tile or vinyl are much better choices for wet environments like kitchens, laundry rooms and baths. Even when vinyl wasn't considered "cool," I have always preferred vinyl over tile. Tile is hard on the legs and feet, it's cold and anything breakable you drop on it is history. And then of course, there is always the problem of trying to keep grout clean, although many of the new wood-look tiles use minimal grout lines. Vinyl has come a long, long way in looks and desirability in the last few years. I have TrafficMaster Allure vinyl planks (sold at Home Depot) in one of my bathrooms and absolutely love it. It is soft and quiet to walk on, and super easy to care for. I had mine professionally installed but supposedly it is an easy DIY project requiring only something to measure with and something to trim the planks. At around $2.00/sq. ft., it is also budget friendly. Allure is water resistant but TrafficMaster makes a waterproof version of the vinyl planks called Ultra. I would not hesitate to have Allure throughout my whole house and in fact, when my budget allows, I plan to replace my laminate floors (that I absolutely detest) with Allure or some other type of wood-looking vinyl plank flooring. I have attached a couple photos of the TrafficMaster Allure in my bathroom.

whatever suits you is the best I would go for wood look or maybe tile on the bathroom floor I really like wood though lol

I used luxury vinyl planks, the snap-together kind so they won't peel up, in my powder room. It was easy to install and looks very good. It's a dark gray wood grain.

Have hardwood in my bathrooms with several coats of varathane over. No problems. My other alternative would be porcelain tiles - amazing colour choices and waterproof for sure.

I had mine done in ceramic tile that looks like an old fence. Love it!

I also am a big fan of vinyl planks. We used them recently in our kitchen to replace outdated 6 x 6 tiles. They were easy to install and can stand up to water as well as regular vinyl tiles.
