Nautical Restaurant Redesign

Earlier this year, I was asked to help redesign a restaurant/ pub in New England... a favorite local establishment, the place needed an update. On a budget. Paint was dreary. Upholstery was nasty. Floor was stained carpet. And decor was dated. I brought in vinyl floor click in place, paint, fabric, new lighting, and some fun artwork. We got to juuuust about everything we hoped and the space looks a million percent better! I approached this space the way I would any room/ home redesign, so hopefully you can come away with some tips for decorating on a budget!! (Head over to my post for many more before/ afters and a full source list!)
The restaurant is called 7 Central, so I made this fun sign for the entrance using cotton rope and an old pallet.
Here's how the space looked before. Pine wood. Dirty carpet. Dated Art. Stained upholstery.
We brought in floors from BuildDirect.com, Behr paint and graphic modern artwork. Can you believe it's the same space?

The black and white photographs were mine and a friend's. We blew them up and printed with coupons at Walgreens (poster size) and grabbed frames from JoAnn's for 50% off.
We didn't have a budget to remove tiles and really renovate the bathroom, but I always say a chic bathroom sets the tone for the entire space... so we wanted to fancy this unisex space up as much as we could.
Flooring helped, but removing the industrial paper towel/ TP holders helped as well as bringing in some cool furniture and a nautical flag gallery wall.
These nautical flags were printed at home and spell out the name of the restaurant. Baskets help corral extra toilet paper and paper towels and a few simple accessories take the space from commercial design into more home design.
Dated wooden artwork is nautical but not... nautical cool.
I shared these earlier on Hometalk, but these knots cost $5 to create and make SUCH an impact on the space.
The foyer was cluttered with a table and brochures for local establishments so we cleared that out. This DIY gallery wall is a better place to display upcoming events.
Wooden boards with rope and clips act as rustic clipboards.
The barn lights from Build.com are the BEST addition to the small front pub room. These simple cotton flags were snagged at a local store and are a great nautical touch.

These old maps were dingy and stained, but we gave the mats a fresh coat of white spray paint and they're ready to display in this private event room.
Just as I would in my own home, I approached this space by considering paint, artwork, and fabric! It was a bigger project than most of what I do at home, but... the end results are remarkable!
