Hawaii Cottage Reno

The dream was to move to HI after the kids graduated. We thought it was just a dream, but it actually happened! We found an "affordable" 2 bedroom place. I call it a cottage. He calls it a shack. But we love it.
Poor little kitchen needs a makeover
The kitchen was painted country blue. It had an old apartment stove and yucky refrigerator. I saw some potential.
We took out the stove and a portion of cabinet. We wanted a full size stove.
I took all of the upper cabinet doors off. I wanted open shelves. I think it makes the kitchen feel more open and not so small. I painted them white with a minty/aqua green inside. Not quite finished with these yet. I'll post pics soon.
The backsplash and wall behind the stove had this white/yellow/dirty/ugly sheet of blah. We tore it off.
We took this sheet down too.
We put self-adhesive floor tile on the wall behind the stove and for our backsplash. I used Power Grab on each tile to make them stick. (Vinyl flooring resists burning and typically does not continue burning when an external flame is removed.)
We trimmed off part of the cabinet above the refrigerator so we could put in a larger one.
Love our little cooking area. Now to finish the rest of the kitchen!
