How to Harvest Honey

When I started keeping bees two years ago, I dreamed of the day I would be able to harvest some honey. That day has come.
Checking the hives periodically during the spring and summer will determine when the honey is ready.
Frame wi th capped honey
Remove the frames from the hive and take to a place you will be able to work without the bees helping.
Uncap the frames with an uncapping tool or uncapping knife.
Heated uncapping knife
Place frames in an extractor.
Spin until all honey is extracted from the frames (about ten minutes)
When extractor begins to fill, open the honey gate and let honey flow into two different size strainers and another bucket.
Let bucket sit overnight to allow air bubbles to rise to the top. Fill honey jars and pat yourself on the back. You just harvested honey!
