My granddaughter is about to hit 13 and has outgrown her Legend of Zelda Castle bed. She wanted something more grownup. My husband and I just changed from a hardsided freeflow waterbed with a captian pedestal to a softsided waterbed. That left us with a pedestal that could come apart and had 4 drawers and a cabinet on each side. I couldn't stand throwing it away.
This was the inspiration for the bed. After close inspection I found out that it was also a trundle bed and that the drawers were one unit, they all pulled out at the same time. That didn't work for her.
Since her wish list for her room didn't leave space for dressers and such, I knew that her room was perfect for these pedestals. The original plan was to take each half and make a bed. That changed when I realized that I could not fit two beds in her room.
We needed a support system to help hold up the mattress platform. So we used leftovers from the castle bed to make pieces for the corners to help hold the bed together and a ledge for the platform.
This is one of the sides of the bed. The inspiration was an Ikea bed that had straight sides. I thought that was like sleeping in a box. So I angled the sides.
Here's the back, sides and platform supports all in place.
Here it is with the pedestal in place. We used a bunkie from a bunk bed for a temporary platform.
I had to improvise a support system for the drawers as it was made for those old 1980's cheap plastic rails and they were all broke. So I made a support system. I used 1x2's and trimmed up all the edges. And we added a wooden platform. In the future we might change it so that there is storage behind the drawers for things like boxes of winter clothes. It got two coats of black paint and two coat of polycrylic.
We placed the bunkie on the wood platform, added a good mattress. We added the hardware to the drawers and but them in place.

The only thing new that was purchased was two sheets of MDF everything else was either leftover from her castle bed or my waterbed.

Thanks for looking.
