Will these cast iron plant (Aspidistra Elatior) roots & rhizomes grow

I got these cast iron plant roots and rhizomes from a gardener who was dividing and transplanting their beds. My question is, will these grow for me? I planted them around my tree and in a shaded garden bed.

I believe they will! Cast Iron Plants are very rugged. You probably won't see "green" this year but more than likely this spring.

Some of them will probably take root and grow into plants, I have had luck with that. Unfortunately the last two winters have killed most of my Iron plants...who knew??

Zone 8 Low country of SC, Mine never fully recovered from ice storm in 2013, and they were well established? I assume it was weather that damaged them, could be something else.

Sorry to hear that. Hope that I'll have better luck. So used to planting established plants. This year I went with bulbs, rhizomes, corms and seeds. So far so good:-)

I had never heard of this plant before, so had to google it real quick...sounds like good ground cover with lovely little flowers...you have a lot of starts and I always plant a lot more plants than I need to compensate for any loss...think you will have a good garden...

They more than likely will but to be extra careful why not start them off indoors. As somebody else said, you probably won't get any greenery this year. HtH

This plant is very popular here in the south. It stays green all year, and grows to three feet. It needs full shade and really cannot take any direct sun as this will scorch the leaves and cause them to turn brown. Many people plant under/around large shady trees, especially the giant Magnolias. Google "photos of cast iron plant" and you will see many pictures.
