Replacement caster wheels

I need to replace two (or four) of these on a coffee table. Does the measurement go by the stem length? I will have to order these. Everything seems too large, there aren't very big.

@Pjk Our Ace is not what it used to be, I am sad to say. Their employees were ALL so helpful.

It is not so much the lengt of the stem as the width of them, as you can see on the picture some are thicker than others so that is the thing you need to consider when getting new wheels. I have some I kept from things I do not use any more, so before disposing of them I take of the wheels, I am a handy lady and will always find use for them somehere ;)

@Mall This is what I have noticed, so I was perplexed! I am a pretty handy lady, too!

Lowes carries a large selection of these, check there first, take one with you.

@Theresa Hardin Barnhill We do not have a HD or Lowes, and I have checked our Ace and Menards, and nothing was this size. I would love a Lowes or HD!

I just replaced casters because of a similar problem. I bought better (all metal) casters. They move better than these plastic ones did. My recommendation would be to take the opportunity to upgrade.

@Erin Cohan Did you have to drill new holes? This table won't be moved a lot, it is for my mom.

I would replace all four casters at the same time. This way you know when they were replaced and to not have the old 2 break the. Have to go thru it all over again.

Both length and diameter of stem important. Likely to be in metric also.

Get thee to Home Depot and get 4 good casters that have rubber and metal wheels. That type gathers dust and dustbunnies and always breaks.

@Marcia Oh Marcia, Marcia, Marcia I wish we had a Home Depot! I got the table at the Goodwill, and have spent a month redoing it. It looked like it had been through some pretty rough times, to say the least!

I checked home depot's website, and here's an example of one of their products. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt-2-in-Threaded-Stem-with-Brake-Non-Marking-Rubber-Caster-4031245EB/203672395 It appears the numerical number is the wheel diameter (2 inches in this example) but if you look further down the page, you'll see additional information on the product to include the stem length, wheel width, etc. You should be able to order online & have them shipped to you. Although I did not check, you should be able to do the same search on Lowe's website. Once you establish the data you need to find the replacement casters, you could also search Amazon. Good luck in your search!

Just add a little sticky-tak, or even silly putty, and stick 'em back in. That is all it would take to hold them in plus.

Thank you everyone! I love all the knowledgeable people on Hometalk. I was able find some casters that fit perfectly!

Check out your local thrift store, Value Village, etc., or go by an apartment building at month end. People are always tossing little shelves/carts when they are moving and you could take the castors off something headed for the land-fill.

A lot of casters go by the weight of object they'll be under, also, so keep that in mind. If the table has already snapped those cheap plastic ones, I'd definitely upgrade so you're not replacing them again next time you try to move the table!☺
