Blank wall above kitchen sink

I have a pot hanger on one side of the long walk, centered above the counter space. What should I do with the wall directly above the sink? I don't want tile- wall switch,outlet and phone plug involved. I will be painting an off white semigloss first.

have electrician move outlet, etc. to either side and place a mirror above the sink. It will bring in light and allow you to keep track of people behind you. Mirrors are very inexpensive at thrift stores and you can frame them if you want.

I'd have the phone outlet moved to the left side, should be a stud there since there's already an electrical switch. Then, look for a neat old multi-paned window frame and instead of glass add mirrors and do what suzi tyler suggested. It will help to keep you from feeling closed in when you are at the sink. If there is some way you could do it, I'd add a pretty pendant light, too. If it can't be hardwired, then configure it so it can be plugged in. It will be a great help in the evening.

I agree with the other posts. A mirror will add light to this dreary space. Also, if you like to watch TV while you work, a mirror would allow you to watch a TV that's in the room behind you, angled correctly. Or you could mount a flat screen TV right there, after having the switch and outlets moved. Other than that, some art work you really love, perhaps using a frame where you can switch artwork from time to time as you get bored looking at it.

I agree about moving all all electrical outlets and plugs and move to the left close to the door. A large mirror would give you a lot of light. Check out cosignment shops and the Rescue Mission for used mirrors. You can paint the frame and/or faux finish, or wall paper it or even use fabric. Studying your pic again, may I suggest a hanging light fixture in front of the mirror and/or 3 small ones...I can't decide as there are so many options.

I took the great advice I received and am very happy with how adding a mirror brightened up my wall! I decided on black frame to coordinate with black pot rack but added touches of yellow for brightness. Thanks everyone!
