Update Your Home With Custom Shutters

My poor old shutters, original to my 1960 home, had seen better days. You too, can update your home with custom shutters to transform the look of your house.
For a true upcycle, you could use pallet wood planks depending on the height of your windows. It would definitely look more rustic. However, I used inexpensive pine planks from Home Depot. I spent less than 1/4 of the price of new similar style shutters.
Everything including materials and supplies was less than a hundred dollars. The cost of one rustic shutter, not a set, is 50 dollars!
I have 4 windows across the front of my home. Three are 55″ and the other one is short at 40 inches. I needed 6 planks (3 for each) and 2 cross bars at 11″ for each.

What I used and bought for the custom shutters: 11- 12′ feet pressured treated pine boards (each board at roughly $5), Antique Walnut Stain with polyeurathane ($20), Galvanized screws (under $10), Large Concrete nails ($7)

We took down the old shutters; see what I did with the old shutters here. With the new shutters being smaller in width from the old ones, I had to touch up the brick, as it wasn’t painted underneath.
Although this is slightly time consuming, with a little muscle you can frugally update your home with custom shutters. It's worth it!

Want these for our front porch windows, but two windows are too close together to fit a shutter on the inside area for each window. Would shutters on just the outside edge of each window look odd or unfinished?

I really love these shutters. Wish I has the 'stones' to try to make them myself. Great job.

I like that you stained the shutters instead of painting them.👍 that's how I'm going to do mine.
