It is called Wild Buckwheat or Black Bindweed (latin name Polygonum convolvulus).

It looks like bindweed to me. Granted, it's lovely, but it will choke out any other plants it's near.

Yep, that's bindweed - a wild relative of the cutlivated Morning Glory. Get rid of it as soon as possible, it's a highly invasive, choking weed and very difficult to remove once it's got a hold on your garden.

Yes, this is bindweed and I agree with others who have posted the same answer, this is a weed and needs to leave your garden. Many sites discuss how invasive this weed is.

Maybe a arrow head and it would have white flowers!

We call it potato vine too because it roots with potato like balls that drop out of some kind of a tree or something. I spend quite a bit of time picking up the "potatoes" before they root but some still do and then I have to dig up the potato in order to kill the vine. Extremely invasive. I'd like to find out how to be rid of it forever.

I have changed my mind about it being Potato Vine. Because I looked at all of mine that are in planters & some on ground. None have the tiny white flowers. Must be Birdweed. BUT, the birdweed I have seems to be growing straight up around some Cannas?

I think it's a variety of morning glory or convolvulus, kind of a bind weed. I have one growing in my hanging basket.
