I want to take a small bedroom and turn it into a walk in closet.
It already has a built in dresser, so I mainly need it for hanging items, purses, and of course shoes! It is in a mobile home and one part is actually the hallway. Sounds confusing ? Does anyone have some fasinating idea's?
Myra, A picture speaks a thousand words, I bet you will get tons of fascinating ideas from everybody once you post a picture here. I think it can be done, all you need is organizational material. I suggest you roughly estimate al the items you have. Shoes vs bags vs scarfs, which items need more space which need a little space? What is the tallest item you have? All this will help build the storage space for you. Rest after a visual, I would love to get your organized.
You are so right, I do need to get some pix on the room, but I will have to get a friend to do it, (I am NOTgood @ computer type things). As soon as I do, please give me more advice, I love your idea's!
Myra, It's really simple to upload photos, when your friend comes over ask her for a tutorial and take notes, it gets very helpful when you have a question and also a visual.
I'll keep an eye on this post as I am bookmarking it, when the visuals are up, I'll help you with ideas and kick start your project.
Yamini, thanks so much for wanting to help me get started!, that would be wonderful and I'd be so gratefull.Right now it "sort of" looks like a bedroom since a friend of mine is occasionally staying in it whiile she is getting ready to move to back to Argentina. Should I wait til the room is empty b4 I take photo's or just do it now? Thanks foe everything,
Completely!! It is really a joke to call it a bedroom as it measures 7x9 which includes 2 ft of the 7ft wall for closet & built in dresser. Even with a single bed and small nite table it is crowded with about 1 ft between the bed and closet. I have SO many clothes and purses that it would be a luxury to have them in one room.
Yanni, I mentioned another more potenetially problematic situation. Hope you wii be able to help. I pulled up the very old (probably orginal) carpeting in my kitchen(lol) and livingroom. I am now worried that all the dust and "stuff" could have been harmful, esp since I didn't wear a mask(call me stupid) and since I have bladder cancer stage 3 I am NOW starting to worry. You will see that I always do b4 I think, as it always seems like such a good idea @ the time. Do you know anything

about what the old pads were made from? Someonne thought there might be asbestos, what do you think? Thanks, as always,
Myra, How old is your home? Usually homes built in the 1950 had traces of asbestos in them. If you just pulled out the carpeting then it maybe just a lot of loose fiber and dust. Did you pull out anything under the carpet, any sub floor as such? There is also a asbestos test kit available in home stores to test a material, this could possible be more at peace once the test comes out negative. I am sorry to hear about your cancer and I appreciate your will and spirit, it's very inspiring.

Myra, it shouldn't be a problem if you yanked the carpet out, when you visit a home store make sure you have a mask, some rubber gloves for safety. Will you be working on the closet project all by yourself?
Yamini, The coach was built in either 57 or 59. Alot of people have suggested the asbestos test, so I will probably try that on some of tthe parts that I will be pulling up also.
It looks like I will probably be doing most of the work myself, though I have friends that have offered to help, but you know how that goes......
Financially I won't be able to start the real physical part of the project, but thats ok,

since it will give me lots of time to do my "homework", so when I do start I will be completely ready to go. Where do you think would be good reliable research beside glossy unrealistic mags? I was going to the library today to check out a few good books and I think I will put together a room board and maybe even one of those kits that have room layouts and little peices of "furniture" that you can play with to get ideas of scale etc. Again any of your great ideas would be taken seriously! I am going to Ikea also, I love their room designs.
Library is a good place, hang out at Barnes and Noble buy a coffee and check out their design books. Apartment therapy has a book on small spaces, see if you can take a loot at it. Measure the space and draw it to scale on a sheet and then cut out furniture shapes to scale and place them on the sheet to get an idea of scale. Once again waiting for some pics from you to give you a better direction.
Thanks,
Myra
