Is it real?

For lack of better terms, part of my techniques are called "faux" finishes. This is a French word for FAKE. But, when you want to add VALUE to a home, it shouldn't LOOK fake. One of the barometers I use for success is when people can walk right by an architectural feature and never guess it is only paint. Many of you have already seen how realistic my wood grain techniques are. But, here is another one. . . marble columns!

Tops of the columns were painted to match the 3 dimensional carvings on the ceiling.

I really do admire your talent and skills. Do you travel should I ever have need for your services in the NE?

BTW on this "...barometers I use for success is when people can walk right by an architectural feature and never guess it is only paint"

On the reverse side of that - a funny thing. I did a hard maple floor once that was sanded and ...»

finished so smoooth and immaculately that a woman coming to visit shortly after complimented me. "This floor is so lovely! What kind of linoleum is it?" LOL

Thanks everyone. Nichter, you would not need to twist my arm to get me up to your beautiful part of the country. Any season is fine. . . I'm originally from MN. Can we find a lobster?

Stacey, there was a total of 4 columns and a lot of other things being done in the home. (Yes, you will all get to see it!) There are many layers, some that need to dry in between. So I just went from project to project working a little here and a little there. Over 4 days, I would guess that each one took about 6 hours. That does not include the prep work.

BTW, no sponges or feathers were used!!!!LOL

I saw some lobsters today at the GA Aquarium. There were some nice crabs there as well.

Went though a lot of feathers on the marble finish. Looks great. Had them done on our old home. But not nearly as nice as this.
