I can't keep a light bulb in a fixture for more than a month.
A couple of my outdoor light fixtures burn out in two weeks. I have completely given up on the more expensive cfc bulbs. Besides a ghost (kids theory), what could be the problem?
Good info, Belle. Some other things to try would be to use 130 volt bulbs or rough service bulbs. Some of the big box stores do have them but if not you can get either of them at an electrical supply house. If there is a lot of movement in your house like being near a highway with truck traffic that shakes the house or just kids running around the upper floors, this will affect bulb life.
Also, I wouldn't count out the CFL bulbs. They don't have a filament that breaks easily, they

have multiple shades, they are cheaper to use and they last quite a bit longer.
hi Kathleen, we should always buy 130 volt bulbs as they will last a lot longer but it sounds like you may have a loose neutral connection which is dangerous and can cause this problem. if you have the skill start with checking all the connections in the panel and on the circuit with the problem if not call a qualified LICENSED ELECTRICIAN. good luck
Do they burn out at times when you've had rain.....just a thought, but incandescent bulbs blow out when just a drop or two of water are applied to them when lit.
My first suspect is loosened wires connecting the light fixture, 2nd would be the house wiring(is it aluminum?). Aluminum wiring can become oxidized causing a bad connection at light. Oxidization can be remedied by using a deoxidization agent(available at hardware store) on the connection to light. Last suspect is bad fixture. PS, outside fixtures because of weather usually means changing the bulbs more often, A good bulb designed for outside use can be helpful
